Is it worth investing in Cape Verde in 2026?

An honest answer, without slogans: why Cape Verde is attracting European investors today and the conditions that make a purchase genuinely worthwhile.

In brief

In 2026, investing in Cape Verde can be worthwhile for those looking for a seaside holiday property on an affordable budget and with a medium- to long-term horizon. Tourism is growing (1,248,052 tourists in 2025) and on Boa Vista there are properties from €50,000. It is only worthwhile, however, if you choose the area, the management format and the partner carefully, and if you check the legal and tax aspects with a professional.

The right question is not just “is it worth it?”, but “is it worth it for me, with my goals?”. Cape Verde offers attractive conditions, but a property abroad is still a decision to be taken calmly and with concrete information. In this guide you will find what has changed in 2026 and a simple method for working out whether it is right for you.

What makes 2026 a special year

A few facts have made Cape Verde more visible and more closely considered by European investors:

  • tourism is growing: 1,177,467 tourists in 2024, 1,248,052 in 2025 and a further +16.8% in the first quarter of 2026 (source: INE Cabo Verde);
  • the government aims to grow tourism further still, a sign that the sector is regarded as strategic for the country;
  • qualification for the 2026 World Cup has put the archipelago in the international spotlight (we cover this in the 2026 World Cup and Cape Verde);
  • a new project has got under way on Boa Vista: The View, with its foundation stone laid on 4 July 2026 and handover expected at the end of 2028.

On their own, these factors are not enough to make a decision. They do, however, point to a changing context in which tourist demand is real and measurable. The figures are explained in more detail in the guide on tourism in Cape Verde.

When investing in Cape Verde can make sense

In our experience, the investment makes more sense if you recognise yourself in at least one of these situations:

  • you want a real asset by the sea, to use for holidays and to leave to your heirs;
  • you want to diversify part of your assets outside your home property market;
  • you have a modest budget: on Boa Vista prices range from €50,000 to over €500,000;
  • you are thinking in terms of a medium- to long-term horizon, not a quick gain;
  • you are willing to be guided by people who know the area.

When it is better to wait

Being honest also means saying when the time is not right:

  • if you need the money in the short term or if the investment would absorb all your savings;
  • if you are looking for a “safe, worry-free” return but do not want to read a contract;
  • if you have neither the time nor the inclination to understand how the property will be managed;
  • if you have never seen the island and do not plan to visit it or have the area properly explained to you.

In these cases it is better to stop, find out more and perhaps start with an exploratory trip.

The three choices that decide whether it is worthwhile

The area

On Boa Vista location matters a great deal: proximity to the sea, to the amenities of Sal Rei and to the most popular beaches. A good property in a weak area remains a weak investment. To understand prices by property type, read how much a home costs on Boa Vista.

The format

There are two main routes: the traditional apartment, which you use whenever you like and manage yourself (or through someone you appoint), and the suite in an Apart-Hotel, with professional management and personal use for part of the year. The differences are explained in the comparison between an apartment and an Apart-Hotel and in the guide what an Apart-Hotel is.

The partner

Who sells to you and who supports you after the purchase makes all the difference. Ask how long they have been working on the island, which projects they have already completed and whether you can visit them. Our group has been present on Boa Vista for over 25 years and has built and sold over 350 properties; the White Hotel, with 69 suites sold, is now completed and in operation.

And the risks?

Every investment has them. In Cape Verde the main ones relate to distance, management, the timescales of a project under construction and knowledge of local rules. We have collected them, together with ways of reducing them, in the guide risks of investing in property in Cape Verde. Tax and legal matters should always be checked with a professional: you will find initial guidance in the guide costs and taxes for buying a home in Cape Verde on Boavista2000.com.

Our advice

Before deciding, write down three things: how much you want to invest, how much you want to use the property and how much time you want to spend on management. With these answers the choice becomes much clearer.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to invest in Cape Verde now or in a few years’ time?

Nobody can predict with certainty how prices will move. Today tourism is growing and on Boa Vista there are still affordable options. The timing matters less than the choice of property and of the people supporting you.

Do you need a large budget to invest in Cape Verde?

No. On Boa Vista there are properties from €50,000, and suites at The View start from €90,000. Remember, however, to factor in the ancillary costs too, which should be checked case by case.

Can I invest in Cape Verde without moving there?

Yes. Many clients live abroad and entrust the management to professionals on the ground. With the Apart-Hotel format you do not have to deal with guests and bookings.

Is Cape Verde a better choice than other seaside destinations?

It depends on your goals. Cape Verde combines a favourable climate for most of the year, proximity to Europe and prices that are still affordable. The comparison with Italy is covered in more detail in the dedicated guide on holiday properties.
