The honest answer is: it depends on what you are looking for and how you choose. Boa Vista has features that make it attractive, but as with any investment it is important to assess the location, the type of property and how it will be managed.
Why Boavista is considered one of the best islands to invest in
Boavista combines unspoilt beaches, international tourism, air links with Europe, holiday resorts and a property market that is still affordable. That is why many investors regard it as one of the most interesting islands in the archipelago for buying property for personal use or for holiday-letting income.
- over 55 km of beaches and over 300 days of sunshine a year;
- an international airport and flights from Europe;
- growing tourism in Cape Verde: from 1,177,467 tourists in 2024 to 1,248,052 in 2025 (source: INE Cabo Verde);
- prices that are generally more affordable than in markets that are already mature.
Where to invest on Boavista: the areas
Most investment is concentrated around Sal Rei, the island’s main town, where you will find services, restaurants and transport links:
- Sal Rei: the heart of the island, with the most consistent rental demand all year round;
- Praia Cabral: the beach a stone’s throw from Sal Rei where The View is being built;
- Estrela do Mar and Vila Cabral: residential areas close to the centre, with apartments at lower prices (see the properties for sale).
How much you need to invest on Boavista
On Boavista you will find properties from around €50,000 up to over €500,000 for the largest homes. Suites at The View start from €90,000. Concrete examples and what affects the price are in the guide How much does a home cost on Boa Vista. Ancillary costs must be added to the price, and should be checked with a professional.
The points to assess
Not all investments are equal. Before deciding, it is important to take time to assess:
- the area: proximity to the sea, to amenities and to the most sought-after areas;
- the quality of the property and, for projects under construction, who is building it and with what contractual guarantees;
- management: who will look after the property when you are not there;
- realistic expectations about personal use and any lettings;
- legal and tax matters, to be checked with professionals.
Two formats, two ways of experiencing the investment
Some people want a home to use themselves, let when they are not using it and manage independently: for them there is the traditional apartment. Others prefer a simpler solution, with professional management: this is the Apart-Hotel format, like the White Hotel and the new The View. The differences are explained in the full comparison.
The questions to ask before buying
- Who is the seller and how long have they been working on the island?
- Are there completed projects I can visit?
- Who manages the property after the purchase, and how?
- What exactly does the contract provide for, and who has checked it?
- Who will support me during and after the purchase?
